The New Maryland Elementary School Resource team consists of two full-time Resource Teachers, one part-time Resource Teacher, ten Teacher Assistants (TAs), and a Student Services Team (SST). We work within an inclusive school environment where all members accept their fair share of responsibility for all children, including those with disabilities (Fuchs and Fuchs 1994).
The processes of consultation, collaboration, and co-teaching are essential for effective inclusion programs (Dettner, Dyck and Thurston 1999, 40).
We subscribe to the collaborative consultation model, providing support to classroom teachers (so as to meet the needs of students with learning difficulities or exceptionalities) by offering the following services:
